FF Symposium: Our Election Day Hopes
Everybody is predicting. But there's what you expect - and what you hope. At FrumForum, we've asked contributors: "Regardless of what you think will happen in the midterms, which race is the one where you'd most like to see your preferred candidate win?" We received an array of fascinating answers.
My own attention is fixed on the California governor's race. That may seem a strange thing to say about a race where the Republican candidate has run the coldest, most content-free campaign perhaps ever seen.
But the fact is: there's no rescuing the US economy without putting California back on track. Arnold Schwarzenegger did not succeed. Jerry Brown will not try. Meg Whitman is the only available hope for this all-important state to govern itself in a sustainable way. If she loses, the path to recovery for all of us becomes more tangled.
