FBI: Pentagon, Marine, Museum Shootings Linked
The Washington Post reports:
The FBI on Tuesday opened an investigation into three unexplained shootings at military installations in Northern Virginia over the past 10 days.
The first shooting, which broke upper-level windows at the National Museum of the Marine Corps in Triangle just off of Interstate 95, happened in the early morning hours of Sunday, Oct. 17. The second shooting, at the Pentagon, was reported at 5 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 19 in the area of the south parking lot, which faces I-395. The FBI announced Tuesday afternoon that those two shootings have been linked to the same weapon.
A third shooting, which apparently happened overnight Monday into Tuesday, targeted the Marine Corps Recruiting Station at 13881 MetroTech Drive in Chantilly. Authorities believe this shooting could be related to the other two, but they are awaiting ballistics tests on bullets from the most recent attack.
In a press release, Fairfax County Police said an employee at the recruiting station contacted police Tuesday morning after finding two apparent bullet holes in an office window and another in an adjacent businses. The incident likely took place between 8:30 p.m. Monday and 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, police said.
