Dems Should Fear the Blago Circus
Democrats are rightfully worried that the trial of former Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich will sink their election hopes. This week his lawyers asked that his trial be moved back to November 3rd: which just happens to be the day after election day.
The team of lawyers defending Rod Blagojevich is asking that the former governor's trial/media circus be moved back to allow them more time to go through all of the evidence.
In traditional Blagojevich style, the lawyers were overtly shameless in their choice of date: they asked that they be granted until November 3rd. November 3rd, of course, is the day after Election Day.
Blago is the biggest circus in Illinois and Democrats are rightfully worried that his trial, and specifically his inability to shut his mouth, will sink their election chances.
The shamelessness of the request is, as all things Blago, almost so obvious that one is inclined to be offended that the lawyers didn't at least try to make some reasonable efforts to hide their intentions. If they needed more time, they would have asked for it sooner. If they just needed more time, they wouldn't have conveniently picked the day after Election Day.
The people of Illinois should be offended. And the judge should give Blago his extension and put the trial in late September. If they really just want their extension, Blago's team won't mind that the new trial date would be even more lethal to Democratic hopes in the upcoming elections.
