Deal Reached on 9/11 Workers' Health Bill
Democrats struck an agreement on Wednesday on a bill funding health benefits 9/11 first responders, clearing its way for passage by the end of the day.
House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) said that he'd been told that a deal had been struck, and that the Senate would vote on the legislation, which had faced the specter of procedural hurdles mounted by Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.).
"I'm told that yes there is an agreement," Hoyer said on MSNBC.
ABC News reported early Wednesday afternoon that Coburn had struck an accord with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) following a meeting between the three.
The deal, per ABC, would cut the size of the package and restructure some of its funding, in addition to adding safeguards against fraud.
