Collins to Back Financial Reg Bill

U.S.A Today reports that GOP Sen. Susan Collins will back the new financial regulation bill in Congress:

Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, said today she will support a reworked version of President Obama's Wall Street regulation bill, providing Democrats with their first bit of good news on the legislation in several days.

"It is imperative that Congress act to address the root causes of the financial crisis that has hurt small businesses and cost so many workers their jobs," Collins said in a statement. "Based on my initial review of the final version of the conference report, I am inclined to support it."

The legislation, intended to avoid another meltdown of the nation's financial markets, will need support from some Republicans to pass. The vote counting was complicated this week by the death of Sen. Robert Byrd, D-W. Va., who had previously voted for the measure.
