Boehner's Poll Numbers Get a Bump

Politico reports:

The honeymoon’s been good for John Boehner and the American public, according to a USA Today/Gallup poll released Tuesday.

The new House speaker’s favorability rating spiked to 42 percent — or nearly double the 22 percent of respondents who view him unfavorably. The new rating is eight points higher than just after the mid-term election and represents a 15-point jump since earlier in the fall, according to Gallup.

“It’s better to be up than down – but it doesn’t change the speaker’s job: listening to the American people, and fighting for their priorities, including cutting spending and creating jobs,” Boehner spokesman Michael Steel said.

Among Republicans, Boehner’s favorability ratings are up 19 points to 65 percent, while 39 percent of independents and 25 percent of Democrats find him favorable — jumps in all categories, according to the poll released Tuesday.
