Blumenthal Lead Grows in Conn. Senate Race

Politico reports:

Democrat Richard Blumenthal has opened up a double-digit lead in the Connecticut Senate race, rebounding from a virtual tie with Republican Linda McMahon, according to the latest poll.

Blumenthal leads McMahon, 54 percent to 43 percent, in the new Quinnipiac University survey released Thursday.

Just a couple weeks ago, a similar Quinnipiac poll showed Blumenthal with a 3-point lead, fueling speculation that the Democrat could lose the race to McMahon – and national Republicans would be one pivotal seat closer to winning the majority in the Senate.

The newest survey, however, shows McMahon with an almost insurmountable hill to climb before the midterm elections, according to Quinnipiac poll director Douglas Schwartz.

“With only three weeks left in the campaign, McMahon is down by 11 points with only 3 percent undecided,” said Schwartz. “Even if she won all the undecided, she still would fall short. This has been a very unusual election year, however, so anything is possible.”
