Biden: Obama Can Beat Palin
Vice President Joe Biden believes Sarah Palin has "a good chance" of winning the GOP's presidential nod in 2012, but that President Barack Obama "would be in good shape" for re-election against the former Alaska governor.
"Were I a Republican senator or a Republican political leader, I would look and say, 'Wait, she's got a good chance of getting the nomination,'" Biden told CNN's Larry King on Thursday.
Palin, the Republican's 2008 vice presidential nominee, said as recently as Wednesday she believes she could beat Obama head-to-head for the White House. But Biden directly challenged that assertion.
"My mom used to have an expression, 'be careful what you wish for, Joe, you may get it.' So I never underestimate anyone," Biden said. "But I think, in that race, it would be a clear, clear choice for the country to make, and I believe President Obama would be in very good shape."
Biden said Palin has a "fundamentally different outlook on the world," which would make an Obama-Palin match-up a "really interesting race."
On MSNBC's "Morning Joe" Friday, Biden continued the theme.
"I don't think she could beat President Obama, but she's always underestimated, so I don't think I should say any more," he said.
