Barbour Heading to Iowa

Politico reports:

In another sign that he's moving toward a presidential bid, Haley Barbour will visit Iowa next month, Politico has learned.

The Mississippi governor will keynote a March 15 dinner in Scott County, the first of a yearlong series of Iowa Republican Party fundraisers aimed at bolstering county parties. Each of the events, to be held in jurisdictions across the state, will feature an out-of-state headliner.

“Building a statewide organization to compete with an Obama reelection machine will require unprecedented coordination and hard work by Iowa Republicans,” said Iowa GOP Chairman Matt Strawn. “By taking the state GOP out of Des Moines and to every corner of Iowa, we will be prepared for that fight.”

Barbour has been to South Carolina twice already this year, but his Scott County appearance will mark his first 2011 visit to Iowa. He last visited the state in October in his capacity as RGA chairman to rally support for Gov. Terry Branstad.
