State Sen. Jake Knotts (who infamously called Rep. Nikki Haley AND President Barack Obama “ragheads,” which is really a slur for Arabs, which neither is, but whatever…) isn’t just ignorant: he also sucks at electoral politics.

Knotts supported Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer in the South Carolina gubernatorial primary, and calling Haley a “raghead” was his elegant way to alert all ’em knuckle-dragging good-old boys and schoolmarm Christian ladies who supported Haley that their girl worships Muhammad and Allah.

Haley’s win last night exceeded even the wildest estimates.  Bauer finished dead last.  Good job there, Jake!

In heartening news, the Lexington County GOP (from which Knotts hails) has called a special meeting to discuss a proper reaction to Knotts’ slur.

Bottom line: race-baiting doesn’t work.  Associating yourself with race-baiters doesn’t, either.  Just ask Andre Bauer.
