Anuzis to Challenge Steele for RNC Chair

The Huffington Post reports:

Saul Anuzis, the former Republican Party chairman of Michigan, will challenge Michael Steele for the RNC chairmanship. In a blog post at his web site, Anuzis writes that Steele "has his way of doing things. I have mine."

"I'm not discussing or addressing the past two years. Steele's record is the record and it speaks for itself. I am focusing on what is in the party's best interest this next cycle," Anuzis told Hotline On Call.

Strong opposition to Steele has mounted in recent days, and Anuzis is just one of a handful of Republicans who has been floated as a possible challenger to the current chairman.

Some Republicans fear that a multitude of candidates could help Steele win a second term as chairman. "There is a concerted effort to coalesce behind the strongest contender if Steele stays in the race," an RNC member told Chris Cillizza. "There is a fear that too many candidates plays to Steele's advantage. If Steele sees the writing on the wall, it will be the wild, wild west."

Anuzis ran for the position after the 2008 presidential elections, but came up short.
