Angle Skips Tea Party Event At Last Minute
Politico reports that Sharron Angle has decided not to attend a Tea Party event at the last minute:
Nevada Republican Sharron Angle will not appear a tea party rally on the U.S.-Mexico border this weekend, much to the chagrin of the organizers of the event who say they confirmed her attendance just a week ago.
The United We Stand Border Coalition advertised Angle as one of its marquee guests this Sunday at a Tea Party rally in Hereford, Ariz., which also bills Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio and former Rep. J.D. Hayworth as speakers. But Angle spokesman Jarrod Agen said she has other commitments in Nevada this weekend and will not attend the rally.
“We were invited, but were never able to work it out logistically given the events she already had scheduled in-state,” said Agen.
Angle won her party’s nod with support from the tea party, but now must appeal to a broad swath of Nevadans in order to defeat Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid this November — a larger, general electorate that might not look fondly upon Angle rallying about 500 miles away on the border between Mexico and Arizona.
Tim Selaty, one of the rally’s organizers, said he firmed up the details of Angle’s appearance one week ago with her staff. Selaty, a vice president at United States for Americans, first heard she was not going to attend from a POLITICO reporter Wednesday afternoon.
“We had Sharron solidly confirmed. Something changed between then and now,” Selaty said. “We worked out the flight. We worked out that they were going to stay here at this time.”
Selaty said he was even under the impression that Angle was excited to meet Pamela Gorman, a conservative state senator running for Arizona’s 3rd Congressional District seat, and a featured guest at the event.
