Andrew Romanoff: White House Offered Me A Job

Politico reports that a new Democrat has come forward, saying he was offered three jobs by the White House to drop out of his Senate race:

Colorado U.S. Senate candidate Andrew Romanoff confirmed Wednesday that Jim Messina, President Barack Obama’s deputy chief of staff, had suggested three administration jobs that would be available to him if he dropped his plans to run against U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet, who had the support of the White House.

Romanoff said in a statement Wednesday night that he informed Messina in a telephone conversation last September that he would stay in the race. Messina then followed up with an email, Romanoff said, listing the three paid positions, two at USAID and one as director of the U.S. Trade and Development Agency. Along with his statement, Romanoff included an email from Messina – dated Sept. 11, 2009 – that listed a page-long set of job descriptions for each position he’d suggested.

The revelation comes just days after the White House confirmed that chief of staff Rahm Emanuel had enlisted former President Bill Clinton to approach Rep. Joe Sestak (D-Pa.) about an unpaid position in the administration if he dropped his primary campaign against Sen. Arlen Specter (D-Pa.).
